Time to make big decisions on care

The latest figures from the Institute of Fiscal Studies (IFS) have highlighted what local government has known for a long time – the trajectory of rising social care costs and falling local government income means the future funding of the sector is unsustainable.

Without a fundamental rethink of plans for local government funding, social care will swallow up more and more of councils’ cash – swamping the other services and draining resources, leading to further financial instability across local government.
