This Budget is much ado about déjà vu

Last week’s Budget was a revelation. A Budget for levelling up, for devolution, to boost economic growth and productivity, and to get people back to work. All worthy ambitions for the Government – the only problem is: we have been here before.

Jeremy Hunt’s latest fiscal event boosted childcare, offering up extra hours of care to ease the burden on working parents. But the childcare sector is scrambling to find staff as it is – extra hours require extra staff.
