Councils in Wales are facing ‘potentially catastrophic’ budget shortfalls in excess of £800m by the end of 2024-25, according to the latest analysis.
The Welsh Local Government Association (WLGA) has estimated councils face unprecedented pressures totalling £1.23bn in the medium-term while grants are expected to grow by just £293m and council tax increases will bring in only £121m.
