Cllr Peter Box explains how employment and skills disparities, in particular for young people, will compromise the Government’s overall financial goals – and that partnering with local government is the only way to move forwards

The Government has set out an agenda for economic and social reform, to drive growth and ensure all parts of the UK share in its benefits, while continuing to balance the nation’s books.

The central theme of the Local Government Association’s Spending Review submission – to be launched at our annual conference next week – will be to illustrate how a more trusted partnership between central and local government will allow councils to improve services, drive growth and save the taxpayer money at the same time.

Without it, the Government’s wider fiscal and economic goals cannot be achieved.
