Looking beyond growth

The almost-universal message emanating from Westminster in recent months has been that what the UK needs most is growth.

Local government representatives, though, like the one quoted above, have seen first-hand that the reality is much more nuanced.

Many areas have seen growth, but this has gone hand-in-hand with numerous negative indicators around poverty, deprivation and inequality.

As witnesses to the fallout, our councils recognise the necessity of moving forward in bringing hope and prosperity to people and communities and – crucially – they are best placed to do so.
